Starter Deck Series: Human

By Steve Horton

The Human Bounty Hunters are masters of stealth and infiltration, but don’t think for a second that the Bounty Hunter will run from a fight – this Human class is an excellent fighter as well. The Human starter deck is an excellent case in point.

It all starts with the vehicle - the Aegis PTR. Essentially giving all of your maneuvers +10 speed until after the first one is used, this vehicle gets you incredible mileage out of even 10 speed maneuvers, significantly increasing your chances of dodging enemy attacks. Combined with maneuvers Intuition and Cruising, which already give themselves speed bonuses, and you may not need many maneuvers to avoid a big attack.

The deck is also packed with damage reduction. Charge Shields only gets better as the game goes on. You’ve spent several maneuvers but it still looks like your opponent’s going to win? Just play Charge Shields and negate the damage from their attack completely. Basic Star Iron is expensive at 5 power, but it’s free to swerve once it’s down and gives you +1 reduction right when you need it.

Other terrific defensive cards include Block Access, which can stop an opponent from scoring after an assault with only one maneuver in play, Zig Zag, which gives a surprise +30 speed bonus, and Defensive Line, which gives your Guardians double duty, almost ensuring that the assaulting vehicle will take damage.

As a Bounty Hunter, you have the luxury of not needing to attack much, allowing you to complete missions at your leisure for the win. If the opportunity presents itself, though, cards such as Satellite Keycodes, Stalker, and Pick Off will tip the odds in your favor. Then there’s Sawblade Launcher, which can be fired every turn with no drawback to pick off units. All these tools at your disposal gives you incredible versatility.

Human vs. Biomek

The Biomek deck will want to finish you off quickly with several high-damage attacks. Use your damage reduction cards and speed bonuses wisely – don’t waste them on an attack that’s obviously going to do 1 damage. Watch for cards like Pyrophoric Munitions and Sasquatch Tires which give the Biomek multiple attacks per turn. If you can hold off the charge, your superior mission-completion ability will pull you through.

Human vs. Mutant

The Mutant will be flooding you with units from the beginning, so make judicious use of Sawblade Launcher and Pick Off to eliminate them. The accuracy bonus from Improved TacArc will help during assaults against multiple units. Don’t forget that you have units of you own that can block a vicious attack on your vehicle if need be, and even have an offensive punch of their own.
