Starter Deck Series: Biomek

By Steve Horton

Terminators are the Biomek’s executors of destruction. They believe force is the primary method of success, and that’s what the Biomek starter is geared toward – outright annihilation of the opponent’s vehicle.

As the Biomek player, you’ll want to strike with deadly force, racking up massive damage bonuses in close combat. Preferably, you will use alternate means to enter close combat, so that your vehicle can swerve for damage. With this in mind, you have a few key cards at your disposal: Hunter Mek Transformation, Sasquatch Tires and Pyrophoric Munitions. The last two are Terminator-only, meaning the class has tremendous access to close combat. Late in the game, it’s possible to start three or more close combats in the same turn, and no opponent can stand up to that onslaught for long.

If the opponent gets ahead in mission completion, that only makes the deck better, as each mission solved by the opponent gives the C.O.R.E. 440 an extra damage bonus. The Terminators also have access to some tremendous direct damage in the form of Sonic Rounds. If the opponent has a nasty weapon in play, stash this maneuver and knock off those last few points of armor. And then there’s Signature Move, an amazing tactic retrieval card that gets you back your Reckless Charge right when you need it.

Biomek vs. Human

The Human Bounty Hunter player will be attacking rarely and will be going for the mission win, so be sure and destroy their maneuvers with Pin Down or Force Off the Road or swerve them with Hillside Pin, so the opponent loses the ability to stash them on his or her turn. The Bounty Hunter will also have access to damage reduction, but with enough damage bonuses piled on, their reduction won’t matter in the long run, especially if the Terminator can attack multiple times per turn.

Biomek vs. Mutant

The Mutant Shaman deck has access to lots of inexpensive units, so it’s important to get the jump on the Shaman before too many units hit the table. The Terminator deck has some anti-unit cards in the form of the mission Overlook Observation, the cards Graze and Squish, and a few nice units that can hold sites for a turn or two. The Shaman player might try and get in a close combat or two with its vehicle, and that’s when the Terminator can bring out the big guns and punish the Shaman for doing so.
