Close Combat

Vehicles and units can engage in close combat in several ways described earlier: during an assault at a mission, by swerving your vehicle in your main phase, or by raiding with your units. Each unit and vehicle involved becomes a combatant for the duration of the combat.

The player who causes the combat, and his combatant(s) involved, are the attackers. A large version of the accuracy icon appears on his side of the road, indicating his total accuracy in the combat. By default, this number begins at 0.

The opponent, and his combatant(s) involved, are the defenders. A large version of the speed icon appears on his side of the road, indicating his total speed in the combat. By default, this number begins at the highest speed among the defenders.

It is Jason’s assault phase. He chooses to assault a mission where his opponent, Tyler, has three units. His vehicle begins close combat with those units. Jason is the attacker, while Tyler is the defender. Jason’s total accuracy starts at 0. Tyler’s units have speeds of 20, 20, and 30, so his total speed begins at 30.

There are three stages of close combat, which occur in order:

  1. Combat Actions
  2. Determining the Winner
  3. Applying Damage
