Applying Damage

The winner of a close combat always deals 1 damage to the losing player. In this stage of combat, however, he may add to that damage before it is dealt.

The winning player may swerve exactly one combatant to add its damage to the damage being dealt to his opponent. If his combatant was his vehicle, he may instead swerve exactly one Front Weapon or Rear Weapon gear card to add its damage. The total amount of damage being dealt by a player is shown in the black space immediately underneath his total accuracy (or total speed) icon.

Once the winning player has chosen either to pass or to add to the damage he is dealing, the losing player must apply that damage. The losing player distributes the damage as he chooses among one or more of his combatants.

The blue bar at the left of each unit and vehicle image in the play area shows the amount of damage that unit or vehicle has sustained. When such a card is played for the first time, this bar is full and equal to the card’s armor. Each point of damage dealt to it reduces the bar by 1. A unit or vehicle is destroyed when it is dealt damage equal to its armor (either all in one combat, or resulting from multiple combats).

The losing player cannot assign damage to any one combatant beyond what it takes to destroy that combatant.

Jason also has a Rear Weapon in play, and swerves it now to add its 2 damage to the 1 damage he automatically deals.

Tyler must now apply the 3 damage. He chooses to apply 2 points of it to one of his units, destroying it. He applies the third point to a second unit, and does not damage his third unit at all.

The combat is now over, and Jason continues with his assault phase.
